Big Walk Review & Metacritic — Score 94, Reception

One of 2026's highest-rated co-op games. Here's the score, the critical consensus, the player reception and what you'll pay.

Metacritic & Critical Reception

Big Walk launched to a Metacritic score of 94 on PC, earning the platform's "Must-Play" certification and ranking among the highest-rated games of 2026. The critical consensus praises its deceptively simple co-op loop — stripping games down to discover, experiment and prevail — and the emotional payoff of its finale.

Player Reception on Steam

On Steam, Big Walk holds a "Very Positive" rating — roughly 90% positive across about 3,129 reviews at launch. Reviewers who played 20+ hours highlight the clarity of the game's visual language, the joy of building a private vocabulary with friends, and a finale that "puts all your skills to the test." The only common caveat is self-policing: using outside voice chat weakens the experience.

Release, Price & Platforms

Big Walk released on August 4, 2026 for Steam (PC), PS5, Switch 2 and macOS. At launch it was offered at a 25% discount (~$14.99 USD against a ~$19.99 / £17.99 list price). Crossplay is supported between Steam, PS5 and Switch 2 on the same version.

Why It Resonates

House House built Big Walk during the COVID pandemic with the explicit goal of bringing people closer — getting them talking and having meaningful interactions. That intent shows: there are no health bars, stamina meters or quest markers, and every object is diegetic. The magic is in the ritual of discovery, cooperative experimentation and shared elation between puzzles. Several reviewers called it an easy Game of the Year contender.

Is It for You?

If you enjoy communication-driven co-op (think a peaceful escape room with friends), Big Walk is close to essential. If you want a traditional objective tracker, combat or solo play, it deliberately offers none of those. Go in expecting to talk a lot and walk even more.

"Big Walk takes the basic building blocks of video games — obstacles and incentives for clearing them — and, through an intensely focused co-op experience, shapes them into something singularly rewarding." — player review
