Big Walk Troubleshooting — Fix Common Issues

Co-op games live or die on connection and voice. Here are the practical Big Walk fixes for the issues players actually hit: friends can't join, voice is silent, the game won't start, or it stutters.

Friends Can't Join / Join Code Fails

Big Walk is online co-op only, with crossplay across Steam, PS5 and Switch 2. If a friend can't join:

  • Both on the same game version — if one side updated and the other didn't, crossplay sessions won't connect. Check for updates on your store.
  • Generate a fresh join code — codes are per-session; an old one expires. The host should re-copy the current code from the pause/session menu.
  • Crossplay is on — the session must allow cross-platform players; a platform-locked lobby won't show to other ecosystems.
  • Network / NAT — strict NAT can block peer connections. A wired connection or enabling UPnP on your router often helps.

Our crossplay & join codes guide walks through the exact flow.

Voice Chat Is Silent

Voice in Big Walk is proximity-based — a teammate's voice fades with distance and cracks through walkie-talkies. If you hear nothing:

  • Get closer — at range, voice is intentionally near-silent. Move together or use a walkie-talkie.
  • Check the in-game mute — each player can mute; confirm you're not muted and your mic isn't muted at the OS level.
  • Mic permission — on PC, the game needs microphone access; grant it in Windows/macOS privacy settings.
  • Wrong input device — set the correct mic in the audio/controls menu (see controls).

The Game Won't Launch

  1. Restart the game/client and your machine.
  2. On Steam, verify integrity of game files (right-click → Properties → Installed Files).
  3. Make sure your PC meets the specs on the system requirements page (or you're on a supported PS5/Switch 2).
  4. Update your GPU drivers (PC) or system software (console).

Low FPS or Stutter

Big Walk is a lightweight, cartoonish co-op game, so heavy stutter is unusual. Try: close background apps, play docked vs handheld on Switch 2, and on PC lower any OS scaling. Persistent issues belong in known issues.

Still Stuck?

If it's a bug rather than a setup issue, check known issues and the official support channels, and see official updates for patches. Remember: Big Walk is co-op only — there's no solo mode to "test" in (see can you play solo).

Troubleshooting steps are derived from Big Walk's confirmed co-op, proximity-voice and crossplay design. Specific platform error codes should be checked against the official support page.
